The best automation earns its place in everyday life. It makes a useful opening easier to operate and gives you a convenient way to control it. For a home, that can mean reaching a high-level window without stretching or opening a servery from a nearby control.

Window automation combines a suitable opening with an actuator and controls. Airla works with your window manufacturer to select and install the automation around the window you choose. The result should make sense for the room, the opening and the way you live.

Bring hard-to-reach windows into everyday use.

Windows above stairs, across a void or high in a living room can be valuable parts of a design. Their position can also make manual operation inconvenient. Automation allows a suitable window to be operated from an accessible control point.

Think about which windows you would use more often if they were easier to open and close. That is a useful starting point for the brief. The actuator and mounting arrangement are then assessed against the opening’s configuration, dimensions, moving weight and hardware.

Make the connection to the outdoors more convenient.

A servery can connect the kitchen to an outdoor entertaining area. A motorised strut or another suitable actuator arrangement can make the opening easier to operate, with controls selected around the location and use of the window.

Share the proposed window details with Airla and your manufacturer before settling on equipment. A new build gives the project team an opportunity to coordinate space, cabling and finishes early. An existing servery needs a retrofit assessment before suitability can be confirmed.

Support convenient natural ventilation.

An easy-to-use opening can make it more convenient to bring outside air into a room when conditions suit. Automation lets you operate suitable windows from a switch, remote or other compatible control instead of reaching the window itself.

The effect on comfort depends on the building, the opening positions and the weather. Treat automation as one part of the overall ventilation design, and discuss your goals with the project team. It is the controlled movement of the window that Airla supplies and installs.

Choose controls around your routine.

Start with the simplest everyday action you want to take. Would you prefer a wall switch beside the room entry, a handheld remote or a connection to your proposed home-control system? Do you need to operate one window or a group?

  • Wall switches: a familiar, fixed point for operating a compatible window system.
  • Remotes: convenient operation from elsewhere in the space, with channels selected around the openings.
  • Environmental sensors: options for a defined response to changing conditions where the chosen system supports them.
  • Home integration: a coordinated connection, subject to compatibility with the equipment and the functions you want.

Browse window controls and accessories and discuss the intended operation with Airla. Controls should be selected as part of the system, alongside the actuator and opening.

Understand what sits behind the movement.

The Airla window actuator range includes chain actuators and power struts. Each is a component selected for a suitable application. The model, required travel, mounting and control arrangement depend on the window.

Airla handles the automation. Your window manufacturer supplies the window, frame, glazing and relevant hardware. We coordinate with them so the moving opening and the automation can be assessed together.

Can you automate the windows you already have?

Some existing windows are suitable for automation. Before selecting a motor, the assessment needs to consider the opening’s condition, hardware, available mounting space, power and access.

Take photos of the whole opening and the areas around its head, jambs and sill. Show the hinges or tracks and explain the benefit you want. If the window is already difficult to move, mention that too so the opening and its hardware can be considered as part of the assessment.

See the movement before you decide.

Visit our window automation applications and Australian project films to see real use cases. They show the scale, movement and setting of particular installations; your own system will be selected around your opening.

For a new build, send the window schedule or drawings. For an existing home, photos and a clear description are a useful beginning. Include the window type, its location and how you would like to operate it so Airla can assess the next step.
